First aid is the emergency care given immediately to an injured or ill person before the arrival of an ambulance, doctor or other appropriately qualified person. The main aim of first aid is to:
- Preserve life
- Prevent deterioration
- Promote recovery
In conjunction with the Health and Safety at Work Etc Act 1974 and the Reporting of Injuries Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) 1995, the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, place legal obligations on employers. It stipulates that there must be a provision of suitable and sufficient arrangements, i.e., personnel, equipment and facilities in place, in order for first aid to be provided to employees who may become injured or ill at work. This requirement refers to all workplaces and employers are also strongly recommended to extend their first aid provisions to non-employees, such as members of the public.
To what extent first aid arrangements need to be made largely depends upon the size of the business, the number of employees and the nature of work activities.
In accordance with the current codes of practice, SDEnvironmental can offer your employees teaching and training for the First Aid at Work Qualification with certification.
Qualification is gained after the successful completion of both a written and practical assessment and is approved by the Health and Safety Executive, which means it is legally recognised in the workplace. This means that should an emergency occur in your workplace, you can have peace of mind knowing that appropriately qualified staff is on site and equipped with the knowledge and skill that comes with our training. Working towards certification, our courses are interesting and enjoyable, where your employees have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience.
In addition, we also offer the First Aid Refresher Course, the First Aid Appointed Persons Certificate and the Certificate in Basic First Aid, as well as first aid presentations for your workforce. From our varied range of training, you can be assured that we can manage all your first aid training requirements tailored to suit the requirements of your business.
